The verdict is in on the counterfeit notes that have been bedeviling businesses across Belize, and, as suspected, the counterfeiters employed some advanced techniques to get these dollar duplicates just right. The counterfeiters made computer scans of genuine 10 and 20 dollar bills, and pasted them electronically unto two dollar notes that had been chemically stripped of its print. In that way, the Sleeping Giant Watermark from the two dollar note was kept intact, and matched with the print from the 10 and 20 dollar notes. With notes continuing to appear countrywide, the Central Bank has arranged to have de la rue currency systems, which prints Belizean currency, come to Belize to conduct a public presentation at the end of the month. It will focus on identifying currency notes and differentiating them from counterfeits.
