The police's anti-drug unit this weekend discovered yet another plane that was abandoned in Northern Belize.
Sometime around 4:15 on Sunday morning police on patrol in the Santa Cruz area of the Corozal district came upon a King Air plane abandoned on a cane field. Other than 102 gallons of aviation fuel in containers there was nothing in the plane. The passenger seats of the plane had been removed and k-9 dogs traced what is believed to be the residual trace of drugs this however needs to be confirmed.
Although it is not designed to transport cargo authorities believe that the plane has a carrying capacity of some 2 tonnes. The plane bore a false registration so it cannot be traced. Searches of the area did not yield any pilots or passengers and on Monday afternoon a civilian pilot flew the plane out of the area to the BDF's camp where it remains.
