The U.S. wants him and here in Belize he is still wanted for drug trafficking but tonight Robert Hertular wants to take his plea to the Privy Council.

Lionel Welch, the attorney for Robert Hertular who is facing extradition to the U.S. on drug related charges and unrelated drug trafficking charges along with his brother Hadrian today made an application to the Supreme Court asking for a stay of those proceedings. What that means is that Welch wants to halt both the drug trafficking trial at the Supreme Court and the extradition proceeding before chief magistrate Herbert Lord.

Welch wants a stay so that both these matters can be argued before the Privy Council in London. The application will be heard next Wednesday April 14th in the Supreme Court.

On January 28th the U.S. issued an extradition warrant for Robert Hertular for conspiracy to export controlled drugs, distribution of a controlled drug, impeding and intimidating a U.S. law enforcement officer, and obstruction of justice. Robert Hertular's case for drug trafficking along with his brother Hadrian was put on hold until the end of the extradition proceeding.
