He's a hard working vendor, cutting through the city streets selling food, but Asbon Gordon's regulars will go hungry tomorrow after he claims he was beaten up by police and BDF officers today.
The 41 year old says that at around midday today he was driving in the Yarborough Area on his way to make a food delivery when a police mobile patrol pulled up on him in an attempt to detain him for a warrant issued by the family court because he hasn't paid child maintenance. Gordon says he told the officers he'd have to go back home just a few yards away so that someone else could make the delivery but officers would have no such thing. He says that as he managed to pull up to his home and business place, he was attacked by BDF and police officers.
Asbon Gordon, Alleged Victim of Police Abuse
"The police just came and waved me down from off the street and said they had a warrant for you. I told them let's deal with it in my areas and they said no. I said well I am going to my areas and you can follow me. They radioed and another vehicle came and they decided to make it a chase but I wasn't running - I was just driving back home to drop off the food. Well by the time I reached and parked my car the vehicle that was chasing me came beside and I couldn't even get out because they came by the door. They jumped out and instantly gun butts were in my face. They didn't give me a break and I called people to come and get the food but they pushed everyone away. They grabbed out of the vehicle and told me they had to kill me because I was going to let them lose their job. I tried telling them to chill out and let me take inside my money but they told me no you can't go inside and they kept using the sentiment they were going to kill me."
"Going into the vehicle they had me in the vehicle and we were going on swing bridge when I told them just let me go out because they had me pinned down in the vehicle and they choking me. He then told me this isn't finished and they won't lose their job over me so whatever they do will be well done because they are not out to lose their job. Then they kept telling me it's not done. And I kept telling them I am not no criminal. Just follow me home so I can go back and take the food.
Alfonso Noble,
"Who was the person beating you?"
Asbon Gordon,
"The police which had on a CIU uniform, the corporal, and about three BDF in green clothes and about three other one in camouflage. I don't know what's their position but it end up in three vehicles because from the Yarbrough police station right back to Wesley College they radioed and more vehicles came."
Alfonso Noble,
"So everyone was beating on you?"
Asbon Gordon,
"Yes, everybody put in their share."
"I didn't commit a crime. Why did they have to use the crime police to come and deal with me. Why did they have to use them? Couldn't be social workers or something else?"
Alfonso Noble,
"What do you want to see done?"
Asbon Gordon,
"The legal process, they right to butt with me nothing. The BDF had no right. The corporal who was with them should have stopped them. Just because I drove and went to my place they got offended and turned it into a whole big fight."
This evening police press officer G. Michael Reid said that the injuries he sustained are not consistent with the level of brutality he is claiming.
Asbond Gordon was being detained for owing child maintenance to the tune of $11,000. Monies he is claiming he does not owe because he is not the child's father.
