A father was today charged with manslaughter by negligence after he ran over his one-year child on their farm in the Mennonite community of Shipyard Village.
Peter Friessen was today arraigned in the Orange Walk Magistrate's Court on the manslaughter charge in addition to causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention. The 33 year old told police that around 7:30 on Friday morning he was driving his tractor on camp no. 3 in Shipyard when he accidentally ran over the toddler with the tractor. The child was pronounced dead at the Northern Regional Hospital and a post mortem certified the cause of death as brain hemorrhage.
