It's just about the dream of just about every Belizean living abroad: to work, send money home and accumulate assets. That was the plan that Roger Lang had and he trusted his brother in law to carry out his plan. But when it comes to money, it seems you can't even trust family.

On Monday Justice Denys Barrow heard a case proving just that. Roger Lang and Benjamin McCulloch appeared before Barrow to settle a claim by Lang that McCulloch owed him $134,000. Barrow ruled in favor of Lang and ordered McCulloch to pay up the monies plus 6% interest from December 13 of 2002 until the debt is settled, along with $13,392 for costs.

The matter arose when through a period of time Lang sent $251,000 to his brother in law Benjamin McCulloch for a series of investment ventures including the construction of a house, the purchase of land, land development and the construction of a gas station. While some of it was accomplished by the time Lang came back home from the U.K. his brother in law was unable to account for $133,972 and thus the suit.
