Police were in the right place at precisely the right time in the wee hours of this morning when they caught a burglar in the act with more than $16,000 in stolen goods.
At about 2:45 police were on patrol in the King Park's area when they saw a shirtless Jason Fitzgibbon jumping the fence of the 7th Day Adventist mission. Police collared him and acting head of the Criminal Investigations Branch Inspector Oscar Puga says that's when they found the stolen loot.
Inspector Oscar Puga, CIB
"Members of the CIB were conducting a routine patrol within the city and upon reaching the King's Park area in the vicinity of 14th Street they saw a male person of dark complexion jumping a fence and the person had on no shirt. The police then pursued this person and apprehended him and later got certain information from that person which led to the discovery of some items which were apparently taken out from the Seventh Day Adventist Church on A Street in King's Park."
"What happened is that upon reaching to that area police recovered several items such as fans, a small refrigerator, two computers with all accessories, and an AC unit which apparently is almost new. The police also recovered the lock cutter used by the person to cut the burglar bars from window and eventually removing some glass louvers in order to gain entry."
"This is not a situation that would normally happen on a weekly basis or such. Most of the times the properties are disposed of very quickly by the culprits but in this event the police were on patrol and this is the reason why we try to facilitate as much patrols for the neighborhoods within the city."
Jason Fitzgibbon was today charged with burglary.
