Friday on 7NEWS Robert Hertular's Attorney Michael Peyrefitte called his client's extradition illegal...and then some (see Robert Hertular Extradited to USA). He claimed that the extradition amounted to kidnapping because Hertular had 21 days within to appeal Justice Denys Barrow's decision. Well today the Attorney General's Ministry issued a clarification saying that, yes, Hertular did have 21 days to appeal but Peyrefitte never requested a stay of the decision, nor did he issue any notice of appeal and without that the government was free to permit the extradition. But whether it was legal or not may all be moot this evening because Hertular is already in New York to face charges, and a U.S. embassy spokesman told seven news today that Hertular voluntarily agreed to go with the DEA agents.
