Homicides in the past weeks slowed down considerably from the murderous June but still we record another that took place in the city. At around 12:30 on Sunday morning 25 year old Kelvin Smith was gunned down at the Yarborough Bridge just feet away from a police boot that stood in front of his house. For his family and friends the murder is senseless and now 4 of his children are left fatherless.
Alfonso NobleReporting,
25 year old Andrew Kelvin Young was here at the Yarborough Bridge just a few yards from his home and a police booth sometime around 12:30 on Sunday morning when he was approached by someone who shot him numerous times.
Victim’s Friend,
“All I heard they came told me they shot him up and he was dead. I don’t know anything else. Nobody knows who did it and nobody didn’t see. But common sense can tell you that if 22 rounds bust, one man can never fire 22 rounds that is two men. Common sense can tell you that two men did it.”
“Who did it is heartless. Why would they want to take a man’s life close to his house? It is hard and who did it has no love. I want to ask who did if they have children, if they have a mother who they love. Because how would they feel if they had taken their mother’s life like that? That is what I would want to ask the person how they would feel if they had taken his mother’s life like how he took that man away from his 4 children who need him the most right now.”
The body of Young had as many as 19 wounds and while police investigators were today in the area piecing the crime scene together, Young's friends say the murder was simply heartless.
Victim’s Friend,
“I think they took advantage of Andrew in the sense that he is not a violent man. Everybody knows him as a football player and they know him as a lover boy. They don’t know him as anybody who would want to kill or hurt anyone so I think they took his life innocently. If the police out there are hearing me justice needs to be done and a proper investigation needs to be done. They need to get down and do a proper investigation because an innocent soul is gone and that man left four children. And whosoever took his life whenever those children cry, it will be blood on your shoulder because whenever they are hungry they have no more daddy. So remember conscience will eat you until the day when the good Lord is ready.”
“I am worrying about the children because when the children cry and when the children are hungry that cruel person who did it and is out there, who knows maybe he might only have needed a smoke or a cigarette to just get him over the crime that he did, but those children have to grow up in a life of pain and sorrow without a father. All I want to say is that who did it may Jehovah be unto their soul because the Bible says whatever you sow you reap.”
Police have two persons detained on this latest murder but they are yet to be charged for the crime.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the 922 crime stoppers number.
