After a nationwide petition drive over the weekend they have gotten over three thousand signatures and counting. Tomorrow the Society for the Promotion of Education and Research says it will turn over the petition to the Prime Minister. The petition calls for full disclosure and the immediate resignation of the Social Security Board of directors and the investment committee. SPEAR's Program Director Jason Price says tomorrow they will head to Belmopan and present Prime Minister Said Musa with the demands of 3,000.
Dr. Jason Price, SPEAR
“We are turning the petition over tomorrow at noon to the Prime Minister with a letter asking for a reply by Thursday and we are going to ask the Prime Minister to come to SPEAR’s office to deliver the reply to the people. So we are asking everyone to come to SPEAR’s office at 12 noon on Thursday to hear what the PM has to say providing he shows up.”
Q: Don’t you think that is too much to be asking of the PM right now since half of his Cabinet just resigned so don’t you think the last thing he will be able to do is find time to visit your office. Is that a reasonable expectation?
Dr. Jason Price,
“SPEAR is representing the people of Belize under its mandate of people participation. The voice of the people have been heard through the signatures that we have collected and this is the most appropriate time for the Prime Minister to reach out to the ordinary man and woman of Belize to say to them here is what I am going to do for you to have faith in the PUP and the government.”
“Unless the Prime Minister calls for immediate elections within the next 30 days then it is unreasonable for him not to come to SPEAR.”
Q: Are you asking him to call elections?
Dr. Jason Price,
“With the latest new developments with the resignation of the 7 ministers of government, we think the Prime Minister should consult with the Governor General and call for immediate elections.”
SPEAR says they will request for the Prime Minister to be at their office on Thursday at noon to respond.
