A10 year old boy is in the hospital tonight and his mother Ilona Theus is in prison after pleading not guilty to a charge of grievous harm. Theus is accused of brutally beating the boy. The 10 year old told the police that his mother struck him over the head with a pint bottle, the cut to the jaw and flogged with a machete among other things.
Police prosecutor inspector Linden Flowers today told magistrate Sharon Fraser that the child is in a serious condition. For her part, Theus said that she only spanked her son on his hands, and explained that it was because her son had stolen her cellular phone and sold it. Probably looking to the welfare of her 6 other children, magistrate Fraser granted Theus 3 thousand dollars bail, but up to just before 5:00 this evening she was unable to meet it, and was taken up to prison. We'll have an update on the young boy's condition tomorrow.
