On Tuesday of last week we reported on the end of 23 year old Douglas Crawford 3 week run from the law. While we had reported that Crawford was shot when he was advancing towards the policemen with a machete, he says that is not so. Crawford further says that he wasn't stealing from residents in Esperanza village he was just helping himself to some water from his brother's house when he surrendered himself to police only to be taken into an orchard and shot purposefully:
Douglas Crawford – Shot by police
“I was at Esperaza village and needed water. The most thing I needed was water I went and opened my brother’s house and got some water. About an hour after I saw police was in the area so I left the scene and went on a hillside and watched them. So while I watched them I said to myself that I am tired or running from the police. So I came down and surrendered to the police. I hid the machete far from where they were, I hid my sandals and I came down and called the police and told them that it was me they were looking for.”
“Then I saw another vehicle coming with some policemen in civilian clothing so they took off the handcuffs of the uniformed policemen and they put on theirs. And we drove away from where I handed myself then they took towards the bush behind Esperanza and they took me in an orange orchard. They shot me three times, two in one leg and once in the other. They took me to shoot me a mile and a half outside of Esperanza village.”

“The police are saying that you were stealing in the area.”
Douglas Crawford
“How can I steal just a little bit of water from my own brothers yard. They shot me for no reason because I was not doing anything.”
Alfonso Noble
“But you are an escaped prisoner”
Douglas Crawford
“That’s the only reason. But if I had already surrendered they have no rights to shoot me because I had already surrendered.”
Crawford is on remand for rape and is serving time for escape.
