It was like a scene out of a western movie when armed bandits held up a bus last night and made off with over $2,500.

The robbery occurred near the western village of Santa Familia where the 24-year-old driver Luis Cruz was heading towards San Ignacio in Cayo. Cruz said he stopped in the village where the conductor Daisy Ortega picked up $2500 in cash. No sooner had they left than a Hispanic man boarded the bus and pulled out a gun and ordered him to stop. Cruz says once he stopped, the bus was stormed by three other men with what looked like an m-16 assault rifle, a 9 millimeter, and a sawed off shotgun. They robbed Ortega of the money and also made off with a gold chain and cell phone. Police are investigating.
