Two people are tonight in trouble for allegedly forging the signature of Minister of Fisheries Hon. Mike Espat on stolen checks written out for hundreds of dollars. Police say their prime suspect is Eulyn Bardalez who has been charged with forgery and related charges. Sometime ago, Bardalez was given a lift home by Alejandro Avila who works in Espat's Belmopan office. After that ride, 24 leaves were found missing from a checkbook that was in the car. They weren't missing for long though, as the checks later turned up at business establishments around the Cayo area. Police were able to recover six of the checks and the banks have been notified. Bardalez has been charged along with Bernard Rowland. We note that stolen checks were not government checks.
