A lawless shooting spree on Saturday evening could have caused the death of a 9-year-old child and four adults. Reports are that at around 5:30, a car pulled up on Kraal Road and two men got out and simply opened fire on anyone who was on the road. At the end of it, a 9-year-old boy had been shot in the left foot and four men were on the ground injured. They are 29 year old Delroy Barrow who was shot in left leg and right shoulder, 21 year old Rudolph Kelly who was shot in the right leg, 28 year old Curtis Lewis who was shot in the upper left arm and 28 year old Phillip Gonzalez who was shot to the left foot and right side near his armpit. We spoke to both Barrow and Gonzalez today at the KHMH and they told us what happened.
Delroy Barrow, Shooting Victim
"I was coming through the alley to go buy soap powder at the 'chiney.' So when I reached at the 'chiney' I was ordering my soap powder with my back turned from the street but same time I just heard bang bang bang but I didn't pay it any mind. I thought it was the kids around the neighborhood busting dynamites. But then I feel something hit me and it burst through my foot and I dropped. So when I conscious it was a gunshot and then my next friend from sewing factory Curtis Lewis was next to me and he felt something burn him on his hand. When he checked it was a bullet which was stuck in his hand and then he told me to duck down because a gunman. But I didn't expect anything like this because I didn't do anything. I was just there buying my soap powder to do my laundry but I just went to buy my things at the wrong time."
Phillip Gonzalez, Shooting Victim
"A car just passed and started firing shots. That's all."
Alfonso Noble,
What kind of car?
Phillip Gonzalez,
"I don't really know what kind of car."
Delroy Barrow,
"I saw a green tinted car and the person was just emptying out all their shells that time I was at the 'chiney' so I just tried to creep and try to get in. But I still got shot. They parked right at the lane. One was shooting towards the 'chiney' and one was shooting in the other direction. Little children were there and two girls that were pregnant had just left from the 'chiney' too, so if they were there they too would have been hit and it would have been worst too."
Police have impounded a green Nissan car they believe was used in the shooting incident it was found abandoned in an area on Custard Apple Street. As for those injured only Barrow and Gonzalez are still at the KHMH. All others have been discharged.
