Drowning Victim Identified

The body of a man was found floating in the Buttonwood Bay Area of Belize City this morning but the cause of death is not known at this time. Sometime around 8, police were called out to an area near the intersection of Seashore Drive and Independence Avenue where they found the body of a Hispanic man floating near the shoreline.

Late this evening, we confirmed that the body has been identified as 34-year-old Giovanni Rodriguez. He lived in the Pickstock Hutment Area and was last seen swimming in the West Landivar Area at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon. The post mortem was inconclusive but the forensic team found no sign of violence on his body and they suspect that he simply drowned.
