A 38-year-old drunk driver of Belmopan has been charged after police say he caused a three-car pileup that left a woman dead. At around 7 on Friday night, San Ignacio police responded to an accident in an area between miles 63 and 64 on the Western Highway where they found a green Isuzu pickup truck, a blue Geo Prizm car and a green Ford pickup truck all with extensive damages.
Investigations revealed that 27-year-old Luis Eck was driving his pickup truck accompanied by his wife Angelita Eck when he ran into the Prizm driven at the time by Victor Cuevas. Immediately after, the third vehicle which was being driven by Jorge Rosales slammed into the first pickup truck, which had lost control after hitting the Prizm. As a result, Rosales's wife Aurora who was traveling with him at the time died after suffering severe head and body injuries. Three minors who were also in Rosales's truck received varying degrees of injuries and were admitted at the San Ignacio hospital. Luis and Angelita Eck were also treated at the San Ignacio Hospital.
Police have since arrested and charged Victor Cuevas who was driving the Prizm that allegedly caused the first collision, with negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, 3 counts of negligent harm, 3 counts of negligent wounding and driving with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
