A Belize City man was stabbed to death on Friday night and the violent act came, not as a result of an old beef or a grievous misunderstanding, just the culmination of a regular street fight. The family of 45-year-old Anthony Flowers today told us that they are wondering why it happened, because Flowers was not known as a troublesome person.

45-year-old Anthony Flowers had to sit down on these steps at a house on Castle Street just minutes after he was stabbed. His niece Tara Sebastian says she was on her way out of her yard on Friday night at around 10 when she saw her uncle stumble home.

"I was about to leave out the gate and he was stumbling towards me and I asked him who stamped him into the drain. He eased himself onto the step and told me that 'flower' juck a down and then with that I alerted my cousin to call an ambulance for him and then my next cousin get a vehicle and the vehicle took him to hospital and that's when they called a while after and told us he was dead. I think it was in the drain somebody stamped him into because I didn't know it was blood drenched on his clothes, I thought it was mud. When he told me that 'flower' juck a down I still didn't take him seriously or that it was something lethal enough to kill him. The left side of his body was drenched with blood was head going down to his foot."
Reports are that Flowers was in the Lovely Lane area when he became involved in an altercation with a man who stabbed him. He then ran from where he had been stabbed to his home about a block away.

"My next neighbor said he had just gone to buy for her and when he was coming back it happened. Nobody had problems with him because he was usually 'run-man' for everybody. He did anything for everybody and then they would pay him but he didn't have problems with anyone."

So why you think they would want to stab him?
Tara Sebastian,
"I just think it is the ignorance of the young man who stabbed him, he was just ignorant and I understand he was under the influence of alcohol. I upset because he didn't deserve such a tragic death and I would like to see
revenge...well not revenge but justice from the government at least."
Working with commendable swiftness, the Crimes Investigation Branch has since arrested and charged Trevor Gill for murder.
