On the night of February 14, 2005 when 29-year-old Police Constable Aldo Ayuso killed Leslie Rogers Jr. on Euphrates Avenue it caused an outrage that blazed in the media for over a week. Since then, the furor surrounding this young police man's name has died down and he remains on interdiction as the DPP reviews the file to see if he will be charged and to say what that charge will be. And while he's off active duty with full pay, the last time we checked, Ayuso has apparently still been getting around and on Friday night he had a dangerous encounter with some men from the Lake Independence Area.

At around 1:30 on Sunday morning, Aldo Ayuso and his older brother Gary, the Public Relations Officer at the KHMH, became got into a fight with Errol Ferguson and Alex Tillet. Ferguson told police that he was in the Lion King Club, which notably is just a square block from where the February shooting occurred, when they had a harsh exchange of words, which reportedly ended in Aldo Ayuso claiming that Ferguson disrespected him.

That went on for a while, and allegedly ended when Aldo Ayuso hit Ferguson in the face with a 9-millimeter handgun. Ferguson left with four other men but while driving on Cemetery Road towards Albert Street, he saw the Ayuso brothers trailing him in a Jeep Cherokee. Ferguson claims they caused him to crash his Nissan car into the barrier in front of the Salvation Army School.

That was Ferguson's story when he made his complaint to police on Sunday morning portraying an out of control Aldo Ayuso wielding a firearm indiscriminately. But he appeared in court this morning and his story was very different. He asked the court to drop the charges of aggravated assault and wounding that police levied against Aldo Ayuso. He told the court it was a misunderstanding with the police. With that Aldo Ayuso was free to go.

That was this morning, this afternoon Aldo's older brother Gary appeared

in Magistrate Court before Magistrate Earl Jones. There he was read charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in public. In this case too the complainant this time Alex Tillet appeared to drop the charges against Ayuso. But being unable to identify himself, because of the lack of an ID, court had to be adjourned for charging officer Superintendent Allen Whylie to be called in and do so. When he did the case of aggravated assault was dropped against the older Ayuso. He still however has to reappear on April 28 for the discharging of a firearm in public. He was granted self bail in the sum of $500 and a surety in the same amount.
