A Police Corporal is in the San Ignacio Hospital tonight after being shot by cross border Guatemalan bandits.

This afternoon at 1:00, a border patrol team from Benque Viejo responded to a complaint that armed men were in the Garbutt's Falls area which is outside of Benque. Sure enough, when police got there, they encountered four heavily armed men, who wasted no time and opened fire on the police mobile. Police returned fire and there was a brief exchange after which the bandits escaped across the river. Police did manage to hit one of them, as Melchor police confirmed that a man showed up at the hospital in Melchor with gunshot wounds. Guatemalan authorities have committed to cooperating fully but we don't know if that means handing over the suspect. Police say that the group may have been hiding out to carry out robberies in the area. Faux's injuries are not considered serious.
