Chain Snatcher 'Caught' in Traffic

A chain snatcher's run came to a crashing end yesterday afternoon and he is detained tonight pending charges.

Police say that around midday yesterday Ladyville villager Sheila Gill and her husband were walking on Cleghorn Street when a man on a bike rode past and snatched her chain. The Gills set chase and the robber darted off. But instead of watching where he was going, he was watching his pursuers behind him and that's why he ended up riding head on into an oncoming car. The car's driver then heard the Gills' cries and grabbed the hapless robber. A search then turned up the chain and its medal. He is detained pending charges of theft and damage to property.
