Police were involved a shootout on Saturday night.

According to reports from Bermudian Landing, a crew of four men plus a driver stormed the business and residence of the village's Chinese grocery store. They subdued the owners with a pistol and tried to haul out and take an iron safe. But it was too heavy, they were unable to get it out, and had to leave empty handed. A team from the always heavily armed Special Patrol Unit was deployed to the Burrell Boom Road at about 10:00 pm to intercept the car.

That team saw the suspected red car on the Burrell Boom Road heading to Hattieville. The SPU set chase and down Sylvester Boulevard heading to Freetown Sibun. That's when someone in the car fired at the SPU team. Fearing for their safety that SPU team halted and fired over 50 rounds from their M-16 rifles at the fleeing car. Remarkably, none of them hit any of the persons in the car. All five escaped, but they had to leave the car abandoned in a swamp. The next day the registered owner of the car went to the Hattieville Station to report his vehicle stolen.

Police say they have at least three suspects from Hattieville and hope to bring charges before the end of the week.
