He's on trial for allegedly performing oral sex on his eight-year-old stepdaughter and then slapping her when she cried, but instead of the courtroom 38-year-old Godfrey Gladden Coote was in the emergency room today.
Coote was being treated for injuries received when he was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed with a switchblade by two women. One of the women accused of attacking Coote is his stepdaughter, the sister of his alleged victim. She is 20-year-old Merlene Clarke and she along with a friend were today charged with the attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm. Police say the women tagged team Coote and Clarke allegedly stabbed him to the chest, abdomen, left hand, and over the left eye while her friend used a baseball bat on him.
Magistrate Emmerson Banner denied the women bail and remanded them to the Hattieville Prison until October 7th. Before she got into the bus to take her to prison, Clarke said that she acted in self-defense since Coote had broken into her home and threatened her.
As for Coote's molestation trial, the prosecution has already wrapped up its case and he was supposed to present his defense today, which he didn't get to do because he is in the hospital.
