Belmopan Police are trying to determine who killed 57-year-old man and why. At around 8 on Saturday morning, police were called out to a house that is under construction at the University Heights Area of Belmopan where they found the body of a man identified as Santa Ana Mercado.
Mercado was found in a hammock under a shed at the construction site. He had a large cut wound to the neck. Investigators believe that someone snuck up on him, knocked him out and cut his neck. Mercado was last seen alive by a neighbor sometime around 7 on Friday night. That same neighbor is the one who found him dead the following morning. Police are trying to determine the reason for the killing as it is not an apparent case of robbery as nothing on the worksite was taken.
