A Chinese businessman was shot last night in the West Landivar Area.
At around 7:10 three men drove up in a black car, one of them pulled a handgun and they strode into J and K Store located on Teacher's Street. They demanded money from owner Lin Zhi Xin and his pregnant wife. Lin's wife ran out of the store while the men grabbed the store's cash register and ran out. They shot Lin in the thigh and arm, but even with those injuries, he managed to pull out his handgun, but the gun simply snapped. Still, he threw it at the fleeing men. They picked it up and fled with the cash register. They would later discover that the register only contained three cancelled checks.
Lin is recovering at a private hospital. His wife says that this is the second time that her store has been robbed. Their security guard was off duty last night, but the store has a surveillance camera and the tape has been turned over to police. Working with that tape, they have arrested and charged 23-year-old Gary White for robbery, attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Police are still looking for the other two men.
