Hurricane Rita, the 18th named storm of the season is churning in the Gulf of Mexico right now, making a beeline for the Texas-Louisiana border. And while the U.S. braces for the third major storm in three weeks, you might be wondering what's in store for October in Belize, known to be one of the most active months in this area.
Well, there is some encouraging news: leading forecaster Professor William Gray is predicting an early end to this very active hurricane season. Gray predicts that the hurricane season will come to and end in October even though the official end of the season is November 30th.
This prediction is in line with the one he made at the start of the season where he forecasted that there will be 20 storms this year. By that math, there should only be 3 storms left. We note that there are only 21 names in the hurricane alphabet; when these run out; the Greek alphabet is used.
