He's earned his celebrity as an outspoken talk show panelist but tonight, police are saying Rufus X shot a man under "questionable" circumstances.
According to the official police release, at 2:00 am on Wednesday morning, X was making a security check at an unfinished apartment complex he owns in the Lake Independence area beside the Belize River when he saw a man stealing 2 by 4's from the upper floor of the building. X told police he borrowed a security guard's shotgun and fired four shots but could not say if he hit the thief, who ran off. Half an hour later, police were called to the KHMH where they found 23 year old Derrick Tillet of a Jasmine Street address with four pellet wounds, to his chest, face and foot. Tillet refused to give the police any information on how he got shot. Still, he was not kept under guard, and discharged himself from the hospital. Now, police are looking for him.
While he wouldn't discuss the story on camera, X told us that a week ago, he left one thousand pieces of 2 by 4 by 10 lumber at the building, and when he got there on Wednesday, only 23 were left. He believes the wood was carried away by boat. In a related development, a 16 foot skiff in the area was found sunken; it was riddled with bullet holes.
