And while they don't claim the prestige of Lord Rhaburn's musical fest that we told you about earlier, what the Belize Entertainment Awards Show lacks in history, it makes up for in pop culture currency. Organizers will roll out the red carpet on Saturday for over 50 poets, singers, and deejays who are nominated in 11 categories. Those categories range from the Best Punta Rock Artist to Album of the Year. Global Promotions' Earl Miller told us why this isn't just an award show, it's showtime.

Earl Miller, Global Promotions
"We can expect a lot of what happened last year and much more, especially the red carpet. I think everybody is looking forward to the red carpet. We have added another a new feature to the red carpet in that we'll be having entertainment outside so it will be a kind of festive atmosphere outside before we go inside to the real award show. There is not another show of this type in Belize and we do really need to show respect to our artists. We feel that our Belizean artists have been disrespected, it might be a strong word but people need to give them a bit of a 'big-up' and somebody needs to show them some appreciation for what they are doing."

Keith Swift,
Your award show is the night after the Lord Rhaburn Award Show. Do you think that will affect attendance at yours?

Earl Miller,
"Hopefully it will get more people to come to our show if after what they see at the Lord Rhaburn Show, they might want more so they can come back the other night."

The carpet will be rolled out at 6:30 pm in front of the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. Showtime is 8 pm and tickets are $40 for reserved seating and $30 for general. William Neal and Kalilah Enriquez will host.
