And while there were two killings in the city, there was one more, this one in Benque Viejo. Around 3 on New Year's day, 47 year old Ortencio Quintero Contreras, a second cousin to Cayo West area representative Erwin Contreras, was found unconscious on Calle de Centro Americano in Benque Viejo. He was lying on the side of the road with apparent injuries to his head and body; police could not determine how long he had been there. Contreras was transported to the San Ignacio Hospital where he died while receiving treatment. According to police, Contreras was, "extremely intoxicated" and they believe that he might have been attacked, robbed and left for dead. A post mortem showed that he died from bleeding in the brain, the result of massive head trauma.
