He turned himself in yesterday and today the man accused of bringing Gales Point Manatee's annual Christmas Bram, called a Sambai, to a bloody end is in jail tonight. This afternoon Gales Point resident Elvis Myers was arraigned before a Magistrate in Belize City for the murder of Winfield Slusher and the attempted murder, grievous harm, and use of deadly means of harm for shooting a police man and alleged attacks on Slusher's sister Ione and other family members.
The incident occurred on boxing day as villagers celebrated around a bonfire. A heated exchange became murder after Myers allegedly left and returned with a firearm. Myers's family members told us that he wasn't on the run, they say he was recovering from injuries received in the melee that preceded the shooting. They claim that Myers shot Slusher in self-defense.
Both Myers and Slusher are from manatee and are distant relatives.
