A 33-year-old man appeared in Magistrate's Court yesterday for assaulting a police officer. Dwight Alvarez appeared before Magistrate Sharon Frazer where he was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault, and 1 count of wounding. The charges arose out of an incident on December 31st at the tourism village.
At the time Police Constable Edison Roches was on duty when he asked Alvarez to go behind the barrier. Alvarez allegedly denied the request and Roches alleges that Alvarez pushed him in the chest. With the assistance of other offices who were in the area, Alvarez was arrested. But as he was being escorted to the cell block Alvarez allegedly swung around and hit Roches and punched him in the face causing a swelling to the left side of the police man's face. In court today Alvarez was granted bail of $2,500 and the matter was adjourned until February 6th.
