A Tourism Police Special Constable shot a police constable and then turned the gun on himself yesterday evening in a dramatic shootout in the city streets. Both men were shot to the head, but miraculously both of them survived. But the news is not encouraging for the Tourism Constable, Charles Grant, he is listed in critical condition at the KHMH while the Constable Ian Geban has been treated and released.

As we reported, over the weekend, grant had a misunderstanding with his common-in-law wife. That resulted in grant allegedly using a police issued nine-millimeter pistol that he stole from the department to shoot at their home, narrowly missing his nineteen year old stepdaughter. Grant was on the run from Saturday until last night when he was cornered in the Mosul Street Area. Commissioner of Police Gerald Westby today told us that Grant was desperate and his officers acted properly.

Gerald Westby, Commissioner of Police
"The police got information and at the corner of Mosul and Baghdad Streets, somewhere around that area, and Inspector Grinage and the other people from CIU, Criminal Intelligence Unit accosted him. He fired shot at Grinage and at the vehicle in which PC Geban was. Fortunately the bullet only lodged superficially in his forehead and we are happy for that. And then we have witnesses to confirm that he went into some area there and put the gun to his head and then shot himself. Its a very unfortunate, its very tragic, but wee cannot have police out there on the loose with firearm either so we need to have found him before he had harmed somebody else because he had already shot at his in-law. Certainly that is why we decided to look for him and try to get him to come in and do whatever."

As mentioned, Grant is in the KHMH in a critical condition. His family declined to comment.
