The Belize Defense Force and the Police Department work closely to coordinate on issues of domestic security. But synchronizing two different chains of command is no small feat and today the senior command of both security forces met at the Police Training School in Belmopan to plot the course of the country's security for the next 6 months.
Gerald Westby, COMPOL
"We've had exceptional working relationship with our counterpart the Belize Defense Force in maintaining security of the country and it is important for us to meet at the senior level annually to look ways how we can work to improve the cooperation, coordination, and communication within the Police and the Belize Defense Force where it relates to internal security and how we can complement their efforts at the border."
Brig. Gen. Lloyd Gillett, BDF
"We feel that its necessary for us to meet at the high command level so that the soldiers and constables can see that we're working together and they will in turn continue to work together. We have a very broad agenda and we set goals and the purpose of coming back is to review to see how far we've completed these goals."
The senior command of the police and the BDF meet at 6 month intervals to assess their objectives and to set new ones.
