In October of last year Floyd Brown ran the catamaran "Belize Glory" into the reef near Caye Chapel injuring some of the 86 passengers who were on board at the time. While on January 5th of this year we reported that the Port Authority had concluded their investigation into the incident and had lain their penalties on Brown for his infractions, the end of this story is yet to come.
On Thursday of last week the Chairman of the Tour Operator's Licensing Committee, Ramon Reyes, informed Belize Paradise Limited that as of yesterday operations by that company should be suspended. It sites for the suspension the damage to the reef, failure to inform regulatory agencies of the grounding and failing to comply with a prohibition of sailing notice by the Port Authority as the reasons.
But Belize Paradise Limited is not standing by or adhering to the order as today they went to Supreme Court with the matter. Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh heard in-chamber arguments by their attorneys for an injunction of the suspension order and leave for judicial review and Conteh granted them both.
