And while two were killed, there were a number of attempts to kill others on this very violent weekend.
Around 8:30 on Saturday night, 24-year-old Roland Usher and 29-year-old Elston Nunez, were hanging out near the Sibun Street bridge when a heavily tinted black car with no license plates rolled up. One man wearing a mask jumped out and fired several shots at the two men. Nunez was shot to the right leg and usher to the right side of his back and left side. The men told police that they do not know who shot them and why. Police recovered nine spent 9mm shells from the scene.
There was another shooting around that same time on Saturday night, this one on Central American Boulevard. Around 8:30 18-year-old Zakir Harris of a Louise Bevans Street address was standing outside Rong's Restaurant on Central American Boulevard along with two other young men when a gray pickup pulled up and a fair skinned man jumped out and fired several shots, hitting Harris in the left thigh. And just as in the other case, Harris told police, he doesn't know who shot him or why. Police visited the scene and retrieved ten spent and one live round of 9mm ammunition.
And while those shooting were by drive up gunmen, another would be pulled by men on bicycles. Just before 8:00 upon Friday night, two men on bikes rode up to 41-year-old Clarence Flowers on Neal's Penn Road near Monroe Street. One of them pulled out a handgun and shot him in the right thigh. They rode off and police took Flowers to the hospital.
