Carlos Popper is suing Minister of State Servulo Baeza, his driver Guillermo Briceno and the Attorney General. Popper's attorney Michael Young filed the civil suit this week in a statement of claim. Young says they will try and get the case heard sometime this year.
The case Young makes is that Popper's contract with Minister Baeza was breached when Popper was not sold the piece of land he was shown. As we have reported, in December of 2002, then Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources Ainslie Leslie showed Popper a property on Rope Walk Caye on the Turneffe Island Range. Popper paid Baeza through his driver $150,000. Two years later, it turned out he had built a resort on the wrong property and he was forced off by the rightful owner.
