Police say he tried to kill himself with a shot to the head, but now Special Constable Charles Grant is well on his way to recovery, but his worries are far from over. In fact, because he has recovered sufficiently, police today arraigned him for numerous crimes. Grant was charged with two kinds of offences: indictable and un-indictable when he appeared in Magistrate's Court number one.
The indictable offences are attempted murder, grievous harm, use of deadly means of harm, aggravated assault and damage to property. These charges come after police allege that on January 23rd of this year Grant attempted to kill Ian Geban by shooting him. Also on that date police allege Grant committed an aggravated assault on Police Constable Joel Grinage with a firearm and damaged the windshield of a police Ford Ranger that was being used when they tried to detain him. The other offences are theft, harm, threatening words, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and damage to property. He pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Allegations by police are that on January 21 of this year Grant stole a police issued 9-millimeter handgun with 9 rounds of ammunition from the Police Tourism Unit. With that gun he assaulted Rosa Esquivel and Luis Balona, caused harm to Alma Balona and damaged a 20 inch television. Grant was denied bail and was remanded to custody until March 28.
