Five prisoners escaped from San Ignacio police this weekend. On Saturday night at about 7:00 pm, four minors and an 18 year old broke away a wooden beam on the ceiling of the detention area and slipped out of the San Ignacio station's holding cell. They then ran to the river, swam across to Santa Elena and managed to elude police. They had all been remanded on drug trafficking charges for 300 grams of marijuana, but were being investigated for a string of robberies in the twin towns. This evening we are told one of the young men, has turned himself in. The oldest is 18-year-old Victor Castellanos and 17 year old Darren Lizama. Two others are fourteen and another is 13. One of the minors turned himself into police this morning.
