Is climate change killing the Belize barrier reef? That's what the United Nations World Heritage Committee will decide when it meets from July 8 to the 14th. Environmentalists in Belize want the United Nations to place blame and sanction large, greenhouse gas-emitting countries like the United States for damaging the reef. The BBC Television World Service aired a feature on it over the weekend, and you can read the report correspondent Roger Hariban did in Belize or see it [On Demand]. The UN World Heritage Sites Committee is being asked to look at five sites damaged by climate change. They are the barrier reefs of Belize and Australia and glacier parks in Nepal, Peru and the United States.
