The Court of Appeal today allowed the DPP's appeal of the sentence of Police Corporal Sherwood Wade. Wade had been fined $4,000 for a conviction of negligent manslaughter after he fatally shot Darnell McDonald in June of 2003.
The Court of Appeal increased that fine to $15,000, and Wade was ordered to pay it within six months, if he doesn't he will serve nine months in jail. His attorney Simeon Sampson agreed with the court that the initial fine was too lenient, but begged the judges to refrain from imposing a prison sentence.
