Police believe they have the woman who abandoned her child on a wet Roaring Creek verandah. 20-year-old Loydia Martinez, a resident of Roaring Creek is in police custody awaiting arraignment for a charge of abandonment of an infant.
It shouldn't have been hard to find her, she was the next door neighbor of Sherilee Williams, on whose verandah the baby was found on Monday morning. But, initially, no fingers pointed to her because no one knew she was pregnant, including her family. And, it appears, Loyda was intent on keeping that a secret when she delivered the baby in secret and deposited it on the verandah, possibly with the help of the baby's father.
The baby is reported to be doing well at the Belmopan Hospital. Loydia is expected to be arraigned tomorrow. No word yet on what contact authorities will permit her to have with the the child.
