Last week it was Bottom Dalla near the Swing Bridge that was the target of a mid morning armed holdup, and this week it's Brodies. A pair of armed and masked men pulled off the daring broad daylight robbery in the heart of downtown Belize City this morning. But tonight the question is if it truly was a robbery.
Police say that around 10:30 a male cashier was carrying a bag with $2,000 of cash from the main store on Albert Street to the hardware store on Regent Street when he was accosted by two men on bicycle, one of them carrying a small firearm. The cashier says he handed over the money bag and the robbers fled.
Police are investigating the report closely because it happened on a main street in the middle of the morning. They are also considering the distance since the walk from the main store is just across the street, a couple hundred feet. Because of the suspect circumstances, that cashier is tonight being questioned by police.
