He's 18 years old, 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 80 pounds, but Matthew Smith says that did not stop police officers from beating him. Smith says on Monday night he was picked up after coming home from the Institute of Technical and Vocational Center and taken to the Police Station. Once there he was accused of carnal knowledge and, he claims, that commenced a succession of police beatings that left him in the hospital. He was released today and Smith says he still wants to know why police beat him.

"From I reached at the station they beat me. They beat me and when they were taking me to take my fingerprint and those things they still were slapping me up. The break when they took me to get my fingerprint, I thought about running away from them. And when I ran away from them, a whole crowd of them beat me. They chased me down and beat me. One of them rapped me in my side two times with a club. I have kidney problems. And when they reached the spot they call the cell block, that is when they had their show time with me. All of them crowded me and started to beat me and those things.
I ended up at the hospital for a overnight. When I was urinating, blood came out in my urine. Because they beat me, I had to go to the hospital because I didn't have problems before.
I want them to do something about it because they beat me for something which I didn't do. They only planted something on me about carnal knowledge and the lady only caught me in the house talking with her daughter."
Smith is to reappear in Magistrate's Court on the 27th of next month on the charge of carnal knowledge.
