The Department of Immigration in Belmopan has sent out the word to its international immigration agencies that 100 Belizean passports bearing serial numbers P0043801 to p0043900 are invalid. Those are the serial numbers for the passports that were discovered stolen from the Immigration Office yesterday morning.
The discovery was made as the financial officer returned from 18 calendar days of leave and was taking over from her deputy. Reportedly, the handover did not take place under supervision, as is required by procedure. But that aside, tonight, information to 7NEWS is that the passports are believed to have gone missing from the 12th September.
This afternoon, police from Belmopan were in Northern Belize following up leads. But because the passports went missing on the 12th, the trail is, reportedly, quite cold. But as the case currently stands, none of the passports have been recovered and according to the police, both the F.O. and her deputy remain detained.
