Yesterday, a convicted child molester left the Court of Appeals a free man, but today there was no such luck for 27 year old Honduran national Curtis Ramirez, a convicted rapist. He is serving a 22 year sentence for abducting and raping his ex-common law wife. He was found guilty in 2005 and sentenced to 12 years for rape and 10 years for aggravated burglary.

Today in the Appeals Court, his attorney Simeon Sampson argued that Ramirez told presiding Judge Michelle Arana that he wanted an attorney, and was not given an adjournment to get one. Because of that, Sampson asked that the conviction be quashed and a retrial ordered. But the court was not sufficiently moved by his arguments and outrightly dismissed the appeal. Ramirez will now serve out the remainder of his sentence.
