Today three Iraqi men who tried to enter the country with false documents pleaded guilty and fined one thousand dollars for possession of false nationality documents. They paid the fine but remain detained as the Department of Immigration is making arrangements to send them back to Iraq.
Director of Immigration Carmen Zetina confirmed that they were carrying passports from Greece and Cyprus. The passports are believed to have been stolen and then tampered with to be used by the trio. They were intercepted by Belize immigration authorities at the western border on October 17th. Zetina says his department has contacted their U.S. counterparts and the trio may be questioned by State Department officers.
