Yesterday morning at 11:30, two Corozal police officers were sent to the free zone to investigate a stolen cell phone. A minor case, but it was a major opportunity for Constables Hernandez and Pech to score on some premium contraband.
After investigating the mystery of the missing cell phone, it seems the PC's went to buy 20 cases of Red Bull energy drink. That's a $3,000 retail value, and it would have been good enough to give them wings were it not for a Customs checkpoint set up on the Northern Highway. They were busted at the checkpoint and brought up on charges for smuggling uncustomed goods. In court, they were ordered to pay $9,000, three times the original value. They have also been put before a police tribunal.
