Last night was Halloween and one-armed robber used the convenient cover of a mask and disguise to pull off a robbery at Saint John's Credit Union on Basra Street. The incident occurred around 6:45 when credit union personnel were closing up for the day. The robber who was armed and masked, pounced on the union's security guard Levi Brown and snatched a knapsack he was carrying. But the trick was mostly on the robber because he left with a bag stuffed with useless checks. We say "mostly" because Brown's licensed and loaded,380 revolver was also in the bag. Brown today told us he saw the man in the mask approaching but thought he would have said "trick or treat."
Levi Brown,
"I saw this guy coming but then I didn't think he was on the move to make a move on me. I thought he was doing his Halloweening. He had on a mask and he was in full green and everything. He was dressed in a Halloween outfit but then I didn't know it was my move. I thought he was going to do his move because I was standing over there and all of a sudden I saw he just threw down his bike and dashed towards me with a Glock nine in his hand."
Keith Swift,
It was Halloween night, did he say trick or treat?
Levi Brown,
"He didn't say trick or treat. He just came to me and said to give him the bag. I told him nothing was in there that concerned him. He said he didn't want to hear that and to give him the bag and he stuck the nine in my stomach."
Keith Swift,
What happened next?
Levi Brown,
"When he got the bag and thing, he went after my phone but my phone managed to drop in drain."
Keith Swift,
How scary was this for you?
Levi Brown,
"Very scary because it is not the first time. The first time they came to jack the credit union, I got shot up and I got two rounds in my side at this same credit union."
Again the only thing stolen was Brown's gun and a deposit bag containing 30 checks valuing almost $80,000. Police have made no arrests.
