He says he's been working on various community projects in the Pickstock division for the better part of 20 years and today UDP standard bearer Wilfred 'Sedi' Elrington added a new project to his resume. It's called the Pckstock Learning Resource Center and today Elrington told us he's establishing it to ensure that the community is educated in the use of computers.

"This is a resource center. We have computers, we have fax machines, and we also have television sets that can play DVD and VHS, whatever it is. The intention is to make it a place where all the residents of Pickstock can come in and can learn the computer and use the computer.

We would also like to help kids with their homework and we have associated with us lots of people, former school teachers, retired school teachers and the like, who want to help to teach and educate our people; people who would never be able to have access to a computer at this point in time. They will now be able to come here and have access to it and be taught to use it free of course.

Of course we think we would like to be able to generate some funds to maintain the center and to replace equipment as the need arises. So what we will be asking people to do, particularly those who are applying for visas and the like, to pay a small fee."

Elrington says the center comes at a set up cost of some $18,000 which members of the community helped him with.
