41-year-old Hubert Bennett got off on a murder charge in the Supreme Court yesterday but he wasn't free for long. Yesterday Prosecutor Kamar Henry entered a nolle prosequi in a murder case where Bennett was accused of stabbing 19-year-old Tigron Emmanuel to death. On August 20th of last year the 19 year old was killed behind the International Players Pub located in the St. Martin's De Porres area. Bennett was released from remand yesterday, but at around 11:40 this morning Bennett who was to be re-arrested for the same incident, spotted police around the Magistrate's Court.
In an attempt to escape he ran into Brodies Pharmacy located on Regent Street. He dashed through the store and as he was making his way from the drugstore into the supermarket when he ran into a glass door dividing the two departments. He sustained a number of abrasions as the door shattered. Ever helpful, the police picked him up and transported him to the KHMH after which he will be charged for damage to property and, once again, for the murder of Emmanuel.
"Tino" Ferguson Fined and Confined for Drunk Driving Deaths
In 2004 Valentine "Tino" Ferguson killed two people, including his common law wife, while driving drunk and today a judge told Ferguson that he'll be fined and confined for double manslaughter by negligence conviction.
This morning in the Supreme Court Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced Ferguson to one year in prison for the death of Lillian Shawn Smith and ordered him to pay the family $10,000 within three years. He also sentenced Ferguson to a year in prison and ordered him to pay $5,000 within two years to the family of his common-law wife Millicent Herrera.
At sentencing today "Tino" Ferguson held a Bible as he begged for mercy but Justice Lucas fined and confined Ferguson because he said the aggravating factors outweighed mitigation - the main one being that Ferguson was drunk at the time at the incident. That accident occurred on the July 19th of 2004 on the Northern Highway.
